Nature holds the key to our aesthetic, intellectual, cognitive and even spiritual satisfaction.

HERE ARE SOME TECHNIQUES WE USE TO BE SUSTAINABLE

  • Instead of floral foam we use a coconut substrate pouch that is compostable.

  • We also use moss mechanics as another alternative for floral foam.

  • When choosing paint for backdrops we always look at the best options for little to no VOC.

  • When receiving florals we keep the packaging and reuse it to transport our floral arrangements for events.

  • Although everyone loves new materials recycling and re-using materials can have the same effect and out come when creating backdrops.

  • We also look at where materials come from and how far they’ve traveled.

What does sustainability mean to Wandering Solstice Design?

When our founder and owner Stephie was on her travels she discovered an entirely different lifestyle that thrived on sustainability. She was introduced to farming techniques, planting, recycling, composting and much more. When she returned and started flowering in the States she realized that floral practices here were very OLD SCHOOL and that florist were still using products that hurt the environment. So when she started her company she new that she wanted to emphasize sustainability in her craft.

At Wandering Solstice Design we make decisions based on sustainability. “How are we going to make this ceremony arch without floral foam?” , “If we use paint what type of paint gives little to no harm to the environment?” Its questions like these that have to be thought out in every discussion when the design process is at its early stages. Being a sustainable business IS NOT easy and there is a lot of research that needs to be done since there are not many florist practicing sustainability. Everyday being a sustainable florist is a learning experience. There are several geographical issues when trying to be sustainable and South Florida is no exception so we do the best we can!
